Former President Daniel Moi grandson Collins Kibet arrested

Former President Daniel Moi’s grandson Collins Kibet has been arrested after evading authorities for seven months. Kibet was apprehended on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in Ongata Rongai after facing multiple legal battles surrounding child support obligations.

Kibet is accused of contempt of court in a case related to child upkeep dating back to 2021. He had previously ignored several court summonses and defied orders to provide financial support for his two children. His ex-wife, Gladys Jeruto, has been pursuing him for child support, with expenses for the children accumulating to Ksh 2.2 million by May 2024. The court had initially ruled in June 2022 in Jeruto’s favor, but Kibet successfully evaded arrest until his recent capture.

How Collins Kibet evaded arrest

Authorities believe the former President Daniel Moi son Collins Kibet worked with informants, insiders within the police to avoid arrest. Despite the issuance of an arrest warrant, he remained elusive and went into hiding after repeated court summonses, prolonging the legal battle with his ex-wife.

Kibet and Jeruto cohabited for four years, from 2008 to 2012, during which they had two children, now aged 14 and 12. After their separation, Kibet abandoned his responsibilities, leaving Jeruto to bear the financial burden of raising the children. In an earlier trial, Kibet denied being the biological father, but a court-ordered DNA test confirmed his paternity.

According to Citizen TV, Collins Kibet is now in police custody, with the legal proceedings expected to resume shortly. The issue has left many Kenyans wondering how the Daniel Moi’s grandson, very powerful, wealthy reduced to such. The public waits with baited breath for the outcome of the court case to see if Collins Kibet will be punished.
