wyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso was released on a cash bail of Ksh50,000 following his arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday. The High Court ordered him to return for a hearing on Friday, October 4, at 2 pm, accompanied by his legal team.
Martha Karua Leads Defense Team
During the court proceedings, NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua led Morara Kebaso’s defense. She was joined by over ten other lawyers, showcasing significant legal backing. The case attracted attention due to the charges brought by the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Charges Against Morara Kebaso

The ODPP had filed charges against Kebaso, accusing him of cyber harassment, a violation of Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act. According to the charge sheet, Morara Kebaso allegedly posted false information about businessman David Langat, accusing him of taking large loans to finance President William Ruto’s campaign.
The prosecution alleged that Kebaso’s claims were meant to tarnish Langat’s reputation and incite him against President Ruto. The posts reportedly stated that Langat had failed to repay the money promised for funding the president’s campaign.

The charge sheet detailed how Kebaso allegedly used his X account to post the defamatory information. The posts were made under the handle @MoraraKebasoSnr on September 28, 2024. The accusations claimed that Kebaso knowingly spread false information without any lawful excuse, which violated the law.
Kebaso’s arrest occurred on Monday, a day before his court appearance. According to sources, police officers arrested him at his Kahawa Sukari office in Nairobi. His lawyer managed to follow the vehicle transporting him, leading to his detention at Nairobi Regional Headquarters. He was later moved to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, where he remained until his arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts.

Court Hearing Set for Friday
The court’s decision to release Morara Kebaso on bail was a significant development,following tensions that had arisen fron his arrest. A group of youth had earlier stormed to court buildings where Kebaso’s case was being heard, demanding his release. He is expected to appear before the High Court with his legal team for further proceedings on October 4, where the case will be reviewed in detail.
