“Please Stop Sending Me Money”: Babu Owino Tells Supporters as He Celebrates Birthday on Mazingira Day

On Thursday, October 10, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino celebrated his birthday in a heartfelt post that resonated with many Kenyans. In a twist of fate, his special day coincided with Mazingira Day, a national environmental conservation event marked across Kenya.

Babu Owino took to his social media handles to express his gratitude for the outpouring of love and support on his birthday. In his message, he acknowledged receiving Ksh370,000 in birthday gifts from well-wishers. However, in a surprising move, he urged Kenyans to stop sending him money.

“A big thank you to all Kenyans who are sending me Mpesa for my birthday today. We are at Sh370,000 so far. I suggest you stop, please; let that money help you somewhere because I understand what you’re going through as a Kenyan. God bless you all,” he stated.

Despite his request, some of his supporters were still eager to send him more money. One fan even asked for his number, to which Owino politely declined.

“Where is your number I send mine?” asked one supporter, but the MP humbly responded, “Please don’t send for today, but I respect you so much.”

In line with his birthday celebrations, Babu Owino shared a Bible verse that carried deep personal significance. Quoting Psalms 16: 5-6, he said, “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.”

Interestingly, Babu Owino has been absent from the spotlight in recent national debates, including the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Many wondered about his absence, but the MP quickly clarified his position. He stated that he was focusing on urgent issues affecting his constituents and would return to Parliament when more pressing national challenges were addressed.

“You’ll see me in Parliament when these issues are presented, but they will not bring them,” Owino commented. “I was highly engaged with other important and urgent matters affecting my constituents. The speed with which Rigathi was impeached should be the same speed used to solve Kenyans‘ challenges.”
