The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made headlines once again, arresting a police officer from Kahawa West Police Station for allegedly demanding a Ksh50,000 bribe. The arrest marks another milestone in the commission’s ongoing efforts to root out corruption within the ranks of the National Police Service.
The EACC, in a statement released on Tuesday, Oct 15, confirmed the arrest of Police Constable Christine Nyokabi Macharia, after it was established that she had demanded a Ksh50,000 bribe. This bribe, according to reports, was meant to facilitate the withdrawal of a complainant’s criminal case from court.

EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the incident, saying that upon her arrest, PC Christine Nyokabi was held at Kilimani Police Station before being transferred to the EACC Integrity Centre to record her official statement.
EACC Tightens the Noose on Corruption in Police Force
This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on corrupt officers within the police force. Just two months ago, in August, four other police officers were arrested after being caught in the act of collecting bribes from motorists in Litein town. These officers had turned the area into a notorious bribery hotspot, regularly stopping drivers under dubious pretenses to extort money.

In addition to police officers, the anti-corruption body has been targeting other public servants who engage in corruption. Back in April, two Nairobi City County officials were arrested. The arrests involved a Compliance Officer and an Enforcement Officer, both of whom had been extorting bribes from residents across different locations in the city. They were similarly taken to Integrity Centre for processing before being arraigned.
