Equatorial Guinea Top Official Arrested Over Sex Tapes Scandal

The director general of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) Baltasar Engonga has been arrested. Authorities accuse him of recording more than 400 sex tapes featuring the wives of prominent officials across the nation, including the president’s sister.

The list of people involved includes the wives of high-ranking ministers, the president’s family members, and even the Director General of Police’s spouse. Some of these interactions allegedly took place in his ANIF office, sparking outrage as one clip appears to show Engonga near the national flag.

Sources close to the investigation indicate that Engonga may have begun these activities as early as October last year. Although the clips were allegedly recorded with consent, it has led to national uproar and prompted questions about abuse of power within public offices.

Government Responds to Baltasar Engonga Scandal

Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue has called for a thorough examination of these claims. He has a personal stake in the case, as he initially launched a probe into Engonga’s financial activities due to concerns about questionable transfers to offshore accounts.
Government officials have immediately suspended any personnel involved in sexual activities within ministry offices. The VP added that public service requires strict ethical standards and stated that such acts contravene the nation’s code of conduct.

“Given recent abuses shared on social media, it is essential to remind officials that ministry offices serve only for official administrative tasks, not personal engagements,” the VP said. “We will not tolerate actions that jeopardize public trust. Control measures are already in place, and any future violations will lead to immediate disciplinary action and dismissal.”

Potential Health Risks Amplify the Baltasar Engonga Scandal

As details emerge about the sheer number of encounters and individuals involved, concerns have arisen about public health risks associated with this case. Equatorial Guinea’s attorney general Nzang Nguema has urged anyone impacted by Engonga’s actions to come forward, warning of possible health consequences.

Nzang Nguema highlighted the potential risks of disease transmission resulting from frequent sexual encounters with multiple partners. “The implications of these acts extend beyond ethics to public health,” he noted, suggesting that if investigations find Engonga infected with a communicable disease, further charges may follow

Investigation on Financial and Personal Misconduct

Baltasar Engonga was originally under investigation for alleged economic fraud before the tapes were discovered during an impromptu raid at his home. The economic fraud probe initially intended to explore suspicious public fund transfers to the Cayman Islands.
