Govt Issues Public Notice As Hundreds of Birth Certificates Go Missing

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has issued an urgent public notice regarding the loss of several birth certificates. The announcement, made on Tuesday, October 15, comes from the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services. According to the Acting Secretary of Civil Registration Services, Paul Mwangemi, the birth certificates went missing from the Mutomo Registration Office.

The lost documents are specific birth certificate booklets, with serial numbers ranging from 1502001 to 1502900. Nine separate booklets, each containing 100 leaflets, have been reported missing. As a result, the Ministry has invalidated these certificates, warning the public not to use them. Below are the specifics regarding the missing certificates:

  • Serial numbers: 1502001-1502900
  • Nine booklets of 100 certificates each

What to Do if You Have One of These Invalid Certificates

According to the notice, if you have a birth certificate from the specified serial numbers, it is now considered invalid. You must return the document to the Civil Registration Services for proper disposal. The office at Hass Plaza in Nairobi is where affected individuals should go to handle this matter.

“Anyone in possession of these documents should return them to the Civil Registration Services at Hass Plaza, Nairobi,” read the public notice.

This loss of birth certificates comes less than a month after the government revealed the disappearance of nearly 400 title deeds. On September 27, the Office of the Head of Public Service issued a gazette notice disclosing the loss of 366 title deeds. The missing deeds had serial numbers between 5253001 and 5253367.
