Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at possible demonstrations, expressing concerns over the government’s proposed reintroduction of some clauses of the Finance Bill 2024. Musyoka criticized the government’s move, saying that the proposed tax hikes would only intensify the burdens faced by ordinary Kenyans.
Kalonzo addressed a crowd in Nairobi’s Umoja area after attending a church service. He later led the opposition’s march to an event held at Kimoroni Stadium in Murang’a County. Musyoka, alongside other leaders, condemned the tax proposals, arguing that they would benefit only a privileged few.

“We cannot remain silent while Kenyans suffer,” Musyoka said. He asserted that the opposition would resist any attempt by the government to reintroduce tax policies that further burden citizens. “If they bring back the Finance Bill, we will not keep quiet. This is a revolution,” he declared.

Joining Musyoka at the event, opposition leader Eugene Wamalwa said that the opposition’s mission is to protect Kenyans from policies that favor a select few. “We are here with Kalonzo, and we are fighting to protect Kenyans, not just the wealthy few,” Wamalwa stated, urging citizens to remain vigilant and vocal.
Kalonzo Musyoka’s call for demonstrations comes amid months of escalating economic pressures, with many Kenyans struggling to manage high living costs. Musyoka added that should the government fail to address the people’s grievances, further protests could be inevitable.

He expressed admiration for the June Gen Z protests, crediting the youth-led demonstrations for bringing attention to the struggles of everyday citizens. He commended the movement, calling it a vital force in ensuring that Kenyan voices are heard. “Their efforts will not be in vain,” Kalonzo affirmed, hinting at future collaboration with young activists to challenge the administration’s decisions.
In his speech, Musyoka also criticized proposals by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei to extend the term limits of elected officials. Musyoka urged Senator Cherargei to “drop the idea like a hot potato,” saying that such measures are disconnected from the real needs of the nation. Kalonzo advised that leaders should prioritize reforms that genuinely improve the lives of citizens.
