In a surprising turn of events, singer-turned-activist Kasmuel McOure has lost thousands of online followers after his recent speech at the Bomas of Kenya on October 4, 2024. The speech sparked widespread controversy, with many Kenyans accusing him of betraying his earlier activist stance.
Kasmuel’s failure to address the brutal attack on fellow activist Morara Kebaso, during the impeachment forum of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, left many Kenyans frustrated. His perceived shift in loyalty, especially his silence on the impeachment of President William Ruto, has led to accusations that he is now aligning with the government.

By Sunday, October 6, Kasmuel McOure’s follower count on X (formerly Twitter) had dropped drastically. He had lost over 20,000 followers, bringing his total down from 162.7 thousand to 142.2 thousand. Many Kenyans expressed disappointment in the activist, feeling he had compromised his principles.
Is Kasmuel McOure a Sell-Out?
Many Kenyans voiced their disapproval of Kasmuel’s speech. Social media was flooded with accusations of him aligning himself with the government while pretending to support the people’s agenda. The controversy surrounding Kasmuel’s perceived change of heart has sparked widespread outrage online.

One online user, Stephen Mutuku, expressed frustration by saying, “Kasmuel went on that stage and spoke the language of our oppressors. He spoke just like them. He sounded just like any other Kenyan MP. Is this the same dude we went to the streets with? Oh, how quickly people change!”
These sentiments were echoed by others, including Pareno Solonka, the lawyer representing Morara Kebaso. Solonka accused Kasmuel of betrayal, stating, “Kasmuel is a sell-out. You now realize why he and the likes of Tarus have been fighting Morara. Morara is the only young activist who hasn’t been bought and is staying true to his cause.”
Miguna Miguna Weighs In on Kasmuel McOure’s Shift
Lawyer Miguna Miguna, a prominent figure in Kenyan activism, also weighed in on the controversy. Miguna revealed that he had attempted to mentor both Kasmuel and Morara Kebaso, but his efforts failed due to their alleged temptation by government offers.
“I advised them to stop jostling about 2027, Gen Z leadership, and NIS crumbs. But it’s been difficult because of the usual youth exuberance, greed, and temptations from the NIS and State House Kenya,” Miguna noted in a statement.

Despite the backlash, Kasmuel McOure has fiercely denied the allegations, challenging his critics to provide proof that he has received any form of government handouts. He addressed the accusations in a passionate post on X, emphasizing that his commitment to fighting for the people of Kenya remains unwavering.
“If I ever sell my integrity, I’ll be the first to make it known,” Kasmuel declared. “If you have proof of the little, I’ve received, table it. I don’t need anyone’s approval to do what’s right for our country.”
Kasmuel also expressed his willingness to lose popularity, work, or even his life in the name of fighting for Kenya’s future. “If this will cost me popularity, so be it. The Internet has never liked me anyway. If it will cost me work, so be it. Our youth are languishing in unemployment. If it will cost me my life, so be it.”
In another X post, Kasmuel wondered why anyone would threaten him with deplatforming. He addedthat he wouldn’t mind getting back to only 400 followers he had a few months back.
