Security Concerns As Young Man Shot in Broad Daylight In Eastleigh

Eastleigh residents are outraged over the security of the area following fatal shooting of a young man on Saturday, November 14th. The incident which occured on a street near DD Plaza of the bustling Nairobi neighborhood has renewed public fears about safety. The young man who has since been identified as Abdirahim Abdullahi, was standing near a woman known for selling tea in the area when an unidentified man approached and fatally shot him.

CCTV Captures the Tragic Incident

A CCTV footage seen by City Digest News shows the gunman approaching Abdirahim and his companion. Without warning, the assailant drew a gun, fired at Abdirahim, took his phone, and fled. Police have confirmed that the footage is now part of an ongoing investigation. After witnessing the attack, the woman quickly retreated into a nearby house, shaken but unharmed.

Eyewitnesses suggested that Abdirahim could have survived if someone had acted quickly to get him to a hospital. Sadly, there was no immediate attempt to transport him, and his life slipped away due to blood loss. Officers from California Police Station responded after the shooting, gathering evidence and launching an investigation.

Possible Motive

Abdirahim’s death is now under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Shauri Moyo Police Station. Investigators have questioned the woman who was with Abdirahim, collecting her statement to help piece together what may have led to the tragedy. A senior police officer suggested jealousy as a possible motive, though no conclusions have yet been made.

“We think it might have been a matter of love and jealousy. It could also be that someone set him up,” a police spokesperson said, adding that detectives are still working to identify the exact circumstances.

Postmortem Confirms Fatal Injury from Gunshot

A postmortem conducted at the City Mortuary found that Abdirahim suffered a fatal gunshot just below the ear, with the bullet exiting the opposite side of his head. This injury caused rapid blood loss, which tragically led to his death before help arrived.

The burial of Abdirahim took place on Sunday at Lang’ata Cemetery according to Islamic faith guidelines.

Eastleigh Security Concerns Continue to Mount

This incident is one in a disturbing pattern of recent Eastleigh murders. Just weeks earlier, four women were murdered in a case connected to a suspect now in custody. Locals are vocal, expressing frustration with what they see as inadequate police protection.

“We feel insecure here. Police presence isn’t enough,” said Ahmed Hussein, a longtime Eastleigh resident. The community’s anxiety is palpable, with many questioning why such violence persists despite multiple police stations in the area.
