Former ‘Sultana’ actress Winnie Bwire, also known as Dida, was laid to rest on Saturday, September 21, at her family home in Mumias, Kakamega County. The heartfelt ceremony featured emotional tributes, particularly from her mother, who described Winnie as a resilient fighter against cancer. “Mimi ndiye nlikuwa caregiver wa Winnie… Am also a breast cancer survivor of 2015. So this journey I know very well,” she shared, saying Winnie battled Cancer with strength.

Winnie’s mother recalled her daughter’s early life, describing her as a smart, outgoing child with a natural talent for acting. “In her childhood, she was a peaceful and organized kid who started acting at Kindergarten,” she reminisced.

The burial of Winnie was attended by notable figures, including Citizen TV news anchor and ‘Sultana’ co producer Lulu Hassan and cast members from ‘Sultana,’ such as Yasmeen Said ‘Maria’ and others known by their character names. Winnie tragically passed away on September 5th 2024 while receiving treatment in Turkey, just weeks after appealing for financial assistance to support her ongoing battle with metastatic breast cancer.

She had a degree in Industrial Fine Art and Design from Makerere University. Winnie was a multi-talented artist, excelling in acting, scriptwriting, and business. Her career began with the 2014 project ‘Penzi,’ leading to roles in ‘Kalimani Dynasty’ and ‘Sultana.’

In 2022, she publicly shared her breast cancer diagnosis and later sought help for her treatment costs. Winnie Bwire’s legacy as a talented actress and a courageous fighter will be remembered by many.
