A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded at Friends’ School Kamusinga on Monday afternoon when a Form Two student died after falling into a septic tank within the school’s premises.
In a letter seen by CityDigest, the Board of Management (BOM) chairperson confirmed that the student was retrieved from the septic tank. He was then rushed to Kimilili Sub-County Hospital. The student was transferred to Life Care Hospital for further treatment, but unfortunately , he did not survive.
The incident was first reported to the BOM chairperson by the school principal, prompting an immediate response. An emergency Board of Management meeting was held on September 16 to address the issue. The Ministries of Education and Interior have since dispatched officers to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The BOM chairperson assured that the school community is calm and united in the wake of this tragedy. The board has committed to revising and enhancing safety measures to prevent future incidents from occuring in the school.
This incident comes barely a week after another incident involving school going children occured. A speeding car hit and killed atleast three primary school students and one highschool student near Makueni.
Friends’ School Kamusinga is a well known boys boarding secondary school in Western Kenya. Kamusinga is known as an academic giant in the Western Kenya region. It has produced good grades in the previous Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Examinations (KCSE). Again, Kamusinga High School is a known sports powerhouse with it’s teams reaching national level competitions.
