Release: the 2024 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race
The Clubsport was officially unveiled on May 31, 2024, during the Nürburgring 24-hour race.
This launch also marked a celebration of the Golf’s 50th anniversary, highlighting its legacy in the motorsport and automotive arena.
While the Clubsport is set to reach more markets later this year and onto 2025, it is currently available for order in Germany and the United Kingdom.
Engine and Performance
Engine Specs: The GTI Clubsport uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, delivering 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This makes it the most powerful front-wheel-drive Golf to date.
Acceleration and Speed: The car clocks 0 to 60 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.6 seconds, faster than the standard GTI’s 5.9 seconds. Although limited to 155 mph, an optional Race Package raises the top speed to 167 mph.
Transmission and Handling: It is exclusively equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG). The Clubsport also has limited-slip differential for better traction. The chassis is optimized with adaptive dampers and an optional Nürburgring mode to heighten responsiveness during fast drives.
Technology and Design
Infotainment System: The Clubsport features a new 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, redesigned for easier usability. The system includes illuminated touch sliders and a more intuitive interface, enabling drivers to stay focused while accessing vital information.
Design Elements: The interior integrates high-quality materials that match the Clubsport’s sporty character. It features a bold design with restyled LED headlights, an illuminated VW logo, and unique rear taillights. It comes with 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels, with a lightweight forged wheel option for enthusiasts. Ergonomic seats provide support for dynamic driving and maintain comfort during daily commutes.
Pricing Overview
In Germany, the Golf GTI Clubsport starts at €48,075, placing it in the premium range of the Golf lineup. This follows its enhanced features and performance over the standard GTI.
In the United Kingdom, the Clubsport is expected to cost around £42,155. Compared to similar hot hatch models, the Clubsport remains competitively priced.
For example, the Honda Civic Type R is around £50,050, while the Audi S3 starts at approximately £47,520.
This pricing makes the GTI Clubsport an appealing choice for buyers seeking performance without paying the higher price of some rivals.
