A video of former Citizen TV presenter Kimani Mbugua in rehab has surfaced, stirring mixed reactions. The video, posted on his TikTok page, shows the ex-journalist at a rehabilitation facility, performing Sauti Sol’s song “Feel My Love” to entertain others. Kimani used the post to encourage his fans to follow his new TikTok account, where he plans to share more content from his rehab journey.
Earlier this year, Kimani Mbugua caused worry among Kenyans with a series of alarming social media posts. The concerning nature of these posts prompted several public figures, including comedian and presenter Oga Obinna, to reach out and offer their support. Among those who stepped in to assist was former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who took a personal interest in Kimani’s case.
Mike Sonko’s Promise to Pay Kimani Mbugua’s Rehab Bills
In response to the situation, Mike Sonko made an announcement on his X (formerly Twitter) page, offering to cover the costs of Kimani’s treatment. “In consultation with Kimani Mbugua’s parents, I will pay his bill at Mathare Hospital and transfer him to the Mombasa Women’s Hospital rehab center,” Sonko stated. He mentioned that the rehab center currently houses other notable individuals, including Conjestina Achieng, a former boxer, who has shown improvement during her stay.
Kimani’s father also shared an update in May, stating, “At the moment, he is still out of balance, but I thank God. As Christians, we pray for what we cannot control, and Kimani is not yet fully well.”
Mike Sonko, who has remained involved in Kimani’s case, recently took to his X page again to provide progress updates. In his post, he confirmed that both Kimani and NTV colleague Eunice Omollo had “healed and fully recovered” from their mental health struggles.
According to Sonko, the former Royal Media journalist Kimani Mbugua has made significant progress since his initial admission to rehab. Alongside other notable figures such as Eunice Omollo and Nasibo Kabale, Kimani is reportedly on a path to full recovery.
“Jameni kuna Mungu mbinguni na acheni aitwe Mungu” (Indeed, there is a God in heaven, let Him be called God), he added.
