Stadium Woes Disrupt Kenyan Football

The postponement of the Mashemeji Derby has exposed a growing crisis in Kenya’s sports infrastructure. Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani—two major venues—are undergoing renovations ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN). Kenya is set to co-host this tournament in 2024 with Uganda and Tanzania.

Other facilities, including Bukhungu Stadium and Kasarani Annex, are also being refurbished. Meanwhile, Talanta City Stadium remains under construction and is expected to be ready by December 2025. This situation has created a venue shortage, affecting both local and international fixtures.
