A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate has lost his life after a brutal stabbing on Saturday night in Nakuru.
The victim who was a student at Shiners’ Boys High School, succumbed to his injuries early Sunday at Nakuru Level 6 Hospital. Authorities confirmed that a fellow student allegedly attacked him, leading to his untimely death amid ongoing KCSE exams.
Gilgil Deputy County Commissioner Willy Cheboi expressed his sorrow over the incident saying, “This unfortunate event has happened during a critical time for students.”
Suspects in Custody as Police Investigate the Incident
Following the attack, police detained four students: the main suspect who allegedly stabbed the candidate and three others believed to be accomplices. Reports reveal that the group fled the scene after the incident but were soon apprehended.

Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winstone Mwakio said the suspects’ have a criminal background. “These students had a record of disciplinary issues and were recently suspended,” Mwakio explained. When they returned to school to sit for their KCSE exams, they reportedly found their personal items damaged, allegedly by the victim.
What Led to The Violence?
Initial reports indicate that the suspects confronted the victim around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, accusing him of damaging their property. The confrontation escalated into violence, culminating in the fatal stabbing. Witnesses described the harrowing scene, noting that students fled into nearby thickets in fear.
Police on the scene reported that the main suspect carried the knife used in the attack, which he used to fatally wound the victim. Law enforcement quickly launched a search to locate the weapon, which was missing after the incident.
School Security Questioned After KCSE Student Stabbed to Death
The unfortunate incident has raised questions about security protocols within educational institutions. During a press briefing, Police Commander Mwakio expressed concerns about how such a dangerous item entered the school’s grounds. “It’s deeply troubling that a knife was accessible to students in this setting,” he commented, adding that the school’s administration must address issues surrounding student security.

The police commander also hinted at the high level of indiscipline observed within the institution, urging schools to adopt preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies.
The body of the deceased has been transferred to a Nakuru morgue, where it awaits an autopsy. Authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation to deliver justice.
