Kisii: 19 KCSE Officials Suspended Over Exam Cheating

19 officials at Kebabe SDA Mixed Day and Boarding High School in Kisii County have been suspended due to exam cheating scandal in the school. These suspensions include the institution’s Center Manager, Deputy Center Manager, two supervisors, and 15 invigilators. This action followed the discovery of unauthorized exam materials and mobile phones during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

KNEC Officer Discovers 31 Mobile Phones

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) officer tasked with overseeing exam integrity uncovered the cheating materials while conducting a routine check at Kebabe High School. During his rounds, he stumbled upon a total of 31 mobile phones hidden in one of the boys’ dormitories. Additionally, three more phones, carrying exam questions and answers, were found inside an examination room. These devices contained questions and answers for the day’s Biology and CRE exams.

The KNEC officer also found shorthand notes containing information remarkably similar to the questions being tested. This raised suspicions about organized exam cheating at the institution.

Authorities Respond to Exam Cheating Allegations

The KNEC officer immediately reported the incident to the Sub County Director of Education. Acting on this report, the Director quickly dispatched a team to Kebabe High School to seize the contraband. Authorities handed these materials over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenyenya, Kisii County, which is now investigating the case.
