Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has officially announced his candidacy for the 2027 Kenyan presidential race. During a live interview on December 3, 2024, Wajackoyah revealed his plans to contest for the presidency, saying he has resolved to compete against President William Ruto for a second time.
Speaking on K24 TV, Wajackoyah made it clear that he is undeterred in his quest for leadership. “I am on the ballot in 2027, and I will not step aside,” he declared, adding that he is committed to his vision for Kenya’s future.

The Roots Party leader criticized President Ruto for excluding 2022 presidential candidates from key discussions about Kenya’s development. According to Wajackoyah, engaging past candidates could have led to more inclusive governance.
“Ruto should have reached out to us and asked how we can help shape Kenya’s progress. I will not beg for a position, and I stand by that decision,” he stated.
Rising Competition Among 2027 Presidential Candidates
The race for Kenya’s highest office is already heating up, with several prominent figures announcing their intentions to vie for the presidency. Alongside Wajackoyah, former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi has declared his candidacy.
Notable political figures such as Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i have also expressed interest. Additionally, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa are positioning themselves for the race.
